about

The composition is the simulacra of a type of invisible heavenly choir that has been witnessed ‘singing in the air’, over the centuries. The sound is constructed from a recording of me reading aloud the biblical account describing the angels’ appearance to the shepherds at the Nativity (Luke 2.8-20). My voice was multiplied, superimposed, slowed down, adjusted for pitch, edited, enveloped, and reordered to create a choral effect.

Melodically, the composition was tutored by Luigi Cherubini’s (1760-1842) sacred choral work. ‘Cherubini’ is the Italian for ‘cherubs’: heavenly beings who attend God, according to the Abrahamic religions.
