about

This album is an annex to ‘The Bible in Translation’, The Aural Bible II, CDs. The series deals with the Judaeo-Christian scriptures as the written, spoken, and heard word. It explores the cultural articulations and adaptations of the Bible within the Protestant tradition. The works on the album embark upon a critical, responsive, and interpretive intervention with aspects of its sound culture. The artefacts the CD and the bonus material album, address the tradition’s emphasis on aurality, expressed principally through speech and song, using sound.

Information on the individual tracks can be found by placing the cursor on the title, and then clicking on 'info'.

The project and recording are a collaboration between The National Screen & Sound Archive of Wales, The National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth, and the School of Art, Aberystwyth University.

The Aural Bible series represents an explorative engagement with sonic material associated with the Judaeo-Christian and the acoustic culture of Protestant Christianity in particular. This is to the end of developing not only creative outputs but also a practice-based hermeneutic. The latter seeks to offer interpretations and discern significances that are otherwise not immediately evident either at source or using other modes of academic inquiry.
