Call & Response [ep]

by Dafydd Roberts & John Harvey

Harvey, Call 02:00

‘Call & Response’ was conceived of as an exercise in collaborative composition between two sound practitioners: Dafydd Roberts and John Harvey. Harvey’s ‘call’ sample is an acoustic recording of a flatbed scanner in operation. Roberts’ ‘response’ is to manipulate the ‘call’ using digital modulation software. The latter's ‘call’ sample is created using the same technology. Harvey’s ‘response’ converts that ‘call’ into an acoustic phenomenon. In essence, their respective approaches are mirror images one of another that together complete a conceptual circle.

Further information on the methods used to explore the source recordings are outlined under the ‘info’ section of each track.
